The RSPCA is urging supporters to sign up for Jane Tomlinson's Walk For All Peak District Walking Festival, and to do it for the animals.

We're one of the partner charities for the event for the first time this year, which takes place on Sunday 28 April in the Hope Valley.

Amy Smith, North regional fundraising manager, said: "We're so excited to be involved in this event, and are sure our supporters will be too.

"It's the first time an animal welfare charity has been a partner in one of the Jane Tomlinson Walk For All events, and we feel really honoured to be part of it.

"The money our supporters raise by signing up to walk for us will go towards some of the most needy animals in the North of England and, at such a difficult time, every penny really does count."

It costs the RSPCA £15 a day to look after a rescued dog in our care, including food, housing and staff, and £9.40 for a cat. We've seen a massive 65% rise in the number of animals abandoned over the past five years so need their help now more than ever.

Walkers can do it for the national society or can support their local RSPCA branch.

There are three different distances to choose from and dogs are welcome to take part alongside their owners. The 'Dambuster' is a challenging 25 miler which takes in Jacobs Ladder and the shoulder of the infamous Kinder Scout. 'Hope and Glory' is a 14 mile route which takes in Winhill Pike. 'The Mini Trekker' is a five mile walk which is suitable for all the family. The route goes through the heart of the Hope Valley and scenic Castleton.

Amy said: "I went to the launch (pictured) with staff from the local RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire branch and one of the dogs in their care, and if that's anything to go by this is going to be a brilliant event.

"We hope our supporters will sign up, get loads of sponsorship, and have a great day out in the fresh air with their dogs and other like-minded people.

"And if walking isn't your thing but you still want to be involved you can support us by volunteering on the day."

The RSPCA also has places in the Walk for All Lake District Walking Festival on Sunday 28 April. Three distances are available – 'The Colossal' 22 miler, 'The Rambleside' 13 mile route and 'The Lakeside Potter' five mile family walk.

Jubliee Community Day Supports Local Charities

Steve Fletcher with RSPCA fundraising officer Julie Schofield

A & S Dog Training recently organised a Dog Show at Eastwood Park, Hasland during the Jubliee Community Day.

Three local charities benefited from Angela and Steve Fletcher's efforts, the proceeds of the event being split between them.

Donations like this from the community are vital to fund our work at the Animal Centre.  Many thanks to A & S Dog Training for supporting us again this year.

A big thank you...

imagesA group of our dedicated volunteers were at the Sainsbury's stores in Dronfield and Chesterfield recently during Farm Animal Welfare Week.

Our store collection over the 2 days raised £810.17.

A big thank you to our volunteers, everyone who donated and also the local stores who allowed us into their foyers to fundraise.

More collections will be arranged later in the year. If you are interested in helping out please give us a call.
