Earless bunnies

babyrabbits Their bright eyes and mischievous antics would melt the hardest of hearts.

But these bunnies found themselves abandoned because they suffered the misfortune of being born with missing ears.

Benny and Bluebell are each missing one ear while Polo has lost both.

The rabbits were brought into Chesterfield's RSPCA branch and are seeking new homes.

Staff at the centre say they are unsure if the ears are missing due to birth defects.

Deputy manager Gary Taylor said the rabbits were found in a basket abandoned on a doorstep in Chesterfield.

He added: "We can't say for sure how they lost their ears. It may be because the mother was stressed when the babies were born and chewed them off or they could have been born this way.

"They are young and need plenty of handling but they are smashing rabbits.

"They are very friendly and will make great pets."

Luna's Success Story

We just wanted to let you know that Jet (now called Luna) is settling in so well. Luna gets fussed by the whole family and is walked four times a day come rain or shine (as a result we're all getting fit). She loves running in the park and is good on the lead.

We love her to bits and are so glad we could adopt her after all the time she spent in kennels (two years) it really is wonderful to see her having so much fun and when she runs she is so fast. Keep up the great work that you all do, as you really do make such a difference to the lives of so many wonderful animals.

Animal centres have been inundated with abandoned or unwanted Christmas presents.

The RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire Branch has had 39 new animals taken in since December 2011 including dogs, cats, rabbits, rats and birds.
