Almost 1 year ago we rescued Bonnie from the Chesterfield RSPCA.  She was living in the same kennel as a Spaniel called Jake.  When we came to look at her we were told she must be re-homed with a canny collar as she pulls terribly on the lead. She also did not respond to her name and could not be trusted off of the lead as she would not come back!!
 
We had a few problems when we first got her, she ran away several times, pulled excessively on the lead, seemed to think she was 'top dog' in the house etc.  But after almost a year of ALOT of hard work, dedication and training, Bonnie now enjoys daily walks over the moors and through the Derbyshire countryside.

She is off the lead the majority of the time and no longer wears a halti or canny collar. She walks to heal, comes when called (9 times out of 10!!!) and has given chasing sheep up as a bad idea!!!  Though she still has 'issues' with other dogs, we are managing this and have it under control. We can now walk her through the park and around other dogs without major fireworks!!!

Hi there

I thought you might like to see how much adopting a dog from your centre has really made a difference.

We adopted Kola on 30th December 2005 and she was a little underweight but generally a happy little dog just needing love. We have given her the love and now we don’t go anywhere without her! She still pulls on the lead as she really doesn’t like it but loves to run off along the trails and is very obedient and always comes back when she is called. I was a little dubious about adopting a dog with "baggage" but other than the pulling thanks to you I have adopted a perfect dog who has become a very much loved member of our family.

I adopted Santa from the Chesterfield RSPCA in September 2006 with some ducks.  He has put on a lot of weight and has become quite a hansom fellow. His only problem is he wants a hen and we are hoping to remedy this soon. He is quite a character and rules the paddock!

Santa is the best bird I have owned, I've never kept turkeys before and was a little bit nervous of him to start with even though he was a bag of bones and had dusty split feathers.

Me and my daughter spent a long time just sitting near him and feeding him, at first my daughter had to climb on the shed roof every night for a week because he wanted to stay out not trusting anyone, now he is a magnificent bird and struts around displaying his fan constantly and follows us all over.

We are hoping to get him a wife soon as we think he is lonely and a bit confused about what breed he is which annoys the cockerels no end!  Hopefully Santa will be with us for a long time and will live the rest of his life in peace and plenty.

PS we haven't eaten Turkey since we had him and I don't think I ever will.

We thought we would let you know how Sasha is getting on.

We’ve had her for about 9 weeks now and she’s doing really well. She has settled into home life well and seems very happy. We took some advice from a nurse who helps with behavioural issues as she is nervous around people, especially men who she does not know, which can be expressed as aggression. However, after taking her advice, Sasha enjoyed a successful camping holiday in the Lake District and went up Coniston Old Man with us. She is excellent at home and can be really soft. She has worked out how to open two of the doors and the side garden gate, so we had to buy a bolt. She is a very intelligent dog and we are aiming to take her to dog training in a couple of weeks to help her socialising skills.

We have introduced Sasha to our neighbours’ dogs who were RSPCA puppies. She gets on very well with them and seems to have a bit of thing for George who tolerates her sniffing his face all the time.

She also has learned what to do with her toys. At first, she completely ignored them and dug stones up from the garden to play with. We supposed that as she was left outside all the time previously, stones were probably the only thing she had to occupy herself with. She now loves playing tug of war with her rope (but she still digs up the lawn in search of stones!)

At the moment she’s snoozing in her favourite corner in the kitchen having just been out for a long run with Matt.

We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures and we’ll keep you informed of Sasha’s progress.

Hi everyone hope you are all well.  Me and Tammy are doing brilliant and Tammy has put on weight nicely.  She had 2 more operations on her eyes since I adopted her. Hopefully one eye is going to be fine but her other eye is going to need cosmetic surgery, this however doesn't seem to affect her vision too much, she sees everything just like any other dog!

Tammy is now a loving member of my family, everybody loves her and she loves children and her dog toy that's in her toy box. She was timid for the first few weeks but now she is a totally different dog.  She will sit with you so you can cuddle and fuss her, or she will lay on your feet so you tickle her belly.  I am so glad I adopted Tammy.

Tammy and I send you all our love and thank you for looking after her bye for now.
