Holly & Pebbles

Holly & Pebbles

S2007024 & C2007065

Adopted 16th September 2007

Hello to everyone at the RSPCA Chesterfield

We visited the RSPCA back in September 2007 as we wanted to adopt a cat. We spent sometime looking at the lovely cats that were in the centre at the time. We spoke to Bev, who asked us if we had seen Twiggy (now known as Holly), but we hadn't seen her as she was hiding in a cat bed. She was a very special cat, as she'd been brought in as a stray and had feral tendencies. I still remember her looking frightened, with her ears flat and hissing somewhat. Holly had been at the centre quite a while and so we decided to give her a home with us.

When we returned to the centre a few days later to collect Holly, we left with two cats; as Bev had contacted us to say Jasmine (now known as Pebbles) had returned to the centre and had previously bonded well with Holly. We made the decision to take both cats to help Holly settle into her new home.

Pebbles settled in straight away. She loves lots of fuss and head tickles; and you can be sure she follows you around the house because she loves company. She comes running down the stairs to greet us when we return from work; usually followed by Holly.

Holly has changed so much in the last year. Although she is not keen on being picked up, she is now more than happy around us and really comfortable in her surroundings. In the evenings she normally comes and lays in the lounge with us, she likes to know what's happening and doesn't want to be left out. She has the cutest purr and she really is a beautiful cat.

The best decision we made was to take home both Holly and Pebbles, they are inseparable. They play together, eat together, sleep together and can be found being mischievous together. We often say that Pebbles is leading Holly astray!

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to adopt Holly and Pebbles, they definitely have brought us lots of happiness, and we hope we've made a difference to their lives.

Adopted 15th January 2009

Hi, just a quick update on Leah.

She has settled in really well and gets on with the others no problem, she even sleeps with the cat. She's good on and off the lead, she loves the park and even goes in the stream. She sits readily waiting for her dinner and is filling out nicely. She travels well and loves the car, first in first out.

She's now a big part of the family and we wouldn't be without her,  she's just like a big puppy, clumsy and just flops down anywhere (usually on one of the others but they're getting used to it now so don't mind). She loves a bourbon biscuit and would help you eat your dinner if you let her.

Leah loves her bed and even shares with the others although it's abit of a squeeze. That's about it for now and we're very glad and happy we've got her.

best regards

Sid, Daisy & Snickers

Goose, duck & hen

Adopted 15th February 2009

Just a few words to let you know how Goosey and friends are getting on in their new home.

Having come to the RSPCA for a famous (Derbyshire Times) goose, we also went away with a duck and a hen to add to our collecton of elderly hens at home.  All have settled in well and have changed their names; Goosey is now Sid (aka Hissing Sid), the duck is now Daisy and the hen is Snickers (after an old favourite who died last year).

Daisy is a very busy little duck who keeps herself to herself but rewards us with an egg every morning.  She's much more reliable than our hens who are all fairly elderly now.  Snickers has been a breath of fresh air in the hen-house and has quickly established herself at the top of the pecking order.  She's very friendly and quite vocal and happily lets us stroke her.

Sid has settled in well and now honks gently when he hears us coming down the field and loves to watch us gardening.  He has become very attached to Daisy and tends to follow her everywhere and is a bit put out if she chooses to sleep in the hen-house rather than his newly-built bachelor pad!  He's getting much more confident with us now and will take food from our hands on his braver days.  He still doesn't understand that he's not waterproof though and so rainy days find us trying to herd him into his sheltered run, much against his will.  It must be very frustrating for him when he can see Daisy busily dabbling in the water but he's penned in!  We hope, one day, that Sid's preening gland may start to work again.  It will mean that he won't need quite so much attention (my daughter jokes that I'm out with the umbrella at the first spot of rain) but he's proving to be an unexpected pleasure and my daughter and I are becoming quite adept at goose and duck herding.

Thank you to all at Chesterfield RSPCA for saving Sid in the first place and then allowing us to become his new family.

Adopted 14th February 2009

Just dropping you line to let you know how my beautiful Ainsley is going!

He came to stay with me on Valentines Day 2009.  He took a bit of time to settle in but he soon found his new bed by the radiator!  He is lovely, a very vocal cat and wakes me up every morning for his breakfast (there is no such thing as a lay in on a Sunday at our house anymore!) He is so loving and eats for England (despite only having 2 teeth) but most of all he loves to sit in the sunshine on the back garden.

Thank you so much R.S.P.C.A we are very happy and hope to spend many happy years together. love Jayne and Ainsley  .....meow
