Rabbit

Female

Adopted 29th May 2005

Please let me introduce myself. I’m the white bunny in the picture and I was rescued from the RSPCA Chesterfield & North Deryshire branch and adopted by my new owner back in May 2005. During my time at the RSPCA I was known as Buttercup but when I moved out my new owner changed my name to Tia, she thought that it would be nice to have a new name for my new start in life.

When I first came to my new home I was introduced to Bailey in the picture. We didn’t like each other at all and we just kept fighting. This upset my new mum as she so wanted us to get on, but Bailey was a spoilt bunny and I was very independent after living alone at the RSPCA. Because me and Bailey would not get on my mum gave me a rather large hutch outside which suited me fine as I always had fresh water, food, hay and straw. I even got my own treats and vegetables!

Anyway my mum didn’t give up and started to bring me into the house to meet bailey. I shared the room with mum and dad and bailey was left in the kitchen. We could see each other through the baby gate but we would still bicker through it and I would leave my scent (which wasn’t pleasant for my mum) in the room. But still my mum didn’t give up hope on me, even if I did wee on her new carpet.

So winter came and mum didn’t want me outside so the plan was that, I would stay in the indoor hutch during the day while Bailey had the run of the kitchen, and then in the evening we would be swapped over.  Then one day dad came home to find sawdust and hay everywhere in the kitchen! My mum had gone to work without locking the top of the cage and I decided to jump out and investigate, only to come across Bailey. Shall I just say we sorted our differences out and mum tried us out together and we became friends. I love Bailey to bits now and he does me. We live under the kitchen table and we are litter trained.

We have plenty of hay, straw and fresh water every day. In a morning when mum comes down and we play a game and run round her feet until she feeds us. I even come out running from under the table to my name. We have toys to play with and to nudge around the floor. Recently mum has treated us to a new hutch called Thistle Hall, it has 2 levels and an add on run too it. We feel like a lord and lady.

As you can see by the picture Bailey often licks my ears and my head and occasionally if he’s lucky I do the same to him.  I just wanted to thank the RSPCA for looking after me and having faith in me finding a good home. Thank you for checking that it would be a suitable place to live and looking out for my safety. I hope many other bunnies are as lucky as I was. Looking after rabbits can be quite costly especially when we both have to go for our vaccinations, but in return we do remain cute and bring much love.

Thank you for reading my story

Jack Russell Terrier cross

Adopted 14th June 2007

Dear All

Just thought we'd send you an update on Rocky, the small terrier we adopted from you just over two weeks ago. The picture is of Mary with Rocky on Morte Point in Mortehoe, North Devon, two weeks ago today. He thoroughly enjoyed his holiday and has settled down with us very well indeed. It has taken some time to get his feeding regime right and he remains a very selective eater but we think we have cracked it with the help of our local vet.

Regards and best wishes

Hello everyone

I Just wanted to say hello and thank you to everyone for looking after me and getting me my new home.  I am having a great time with my new family, the drive home was a bit long because the traffic was bad but I wasn’t sick, I just slobbered all over Sam in the back of the van, then Pete let me sit in the front for a while.  Now I am home me and Pete have been everywhere, the beech, the forest and loads of other walks.  We are getting on really well we snuggle up at night until Pete has to push his luck and try and sit on my head or nibble my face.  I love it here and I think everyone loves me.

Thank you again

Marley and all my new family xxxx

Dear All

Just wanted to let you know how Jericho and Brooke (now known as Zak and Georgie) were getting on.  We adopted Jericho in May of this year and decided it would be nice for him to have a little sister so we then adopted Brooke in June.

Zak was quite nervous for the first week but quickly settled in. After spending a fortune on a lovely fury cat bed for him to sleep in, he has taken ownership of the arm chair and looks most disgruntled when guests come round and sit in his chair.  He has now discovered outside and loves to spend hours in the garden.  Unfortunately he has not learnt how to climb down trees which meant we had to pay a tree surgeon £25 to get him out of a 20 foot tree. Hopefully he'll choose smaller trees next time.

Georgie settled straight in and loves nothing more than chasing Zak's tail while he's trying to sleep or pouncing on him and then running off.  She has got the loudest purr I have ever heard and looks very funny after she has eaten with her little pot belly.  She also enjoys biting Ben's toes while he's trying to sleep, which I find quite amusing.

They get on brilliantly. Georgie follows Zak around everywhere and when Zak comes in from a long hard day bird watching the first thing he does is go to find Georgie.

They are a joy to have and it is especially nice to come home and be greeted with lots of loves.  Thank you for all your help.

English Springer Spaniel

Female - neutered

Adopted 14th October 2006

Hello

Just thought we'd give you a quick update on Poppy the 10 year old Springer Spaniel we adopted from Chesterfield RSPCA on 14 October 2006.

She has settled in really well and it feels like she been part of the family all her life.

When we first got Poppy she was rather on the plump side and not very fit, only managing a 5 minute walk around the block, but now she can manages long walks at Silver hill woods and on the Teversal Trails. She also didn't have much obedience training but now she will do sit, lie down, stay, come, leave and give paw - who says you can't learn an old dog new tricks?!

Poppy gets on really well with our 4 year old Cocker Spaniel Dillon and they are inseparable.

We noticed that Poppy was getting a bit stiff on her back legs and the vets said it was the onset of arthritis. We invested in a Bioflow collar for her, which has helped her a lot.
