Max
D2007185
Labrador cross
Male - neutered
Adopted 20th July 2007
Hi
Max came to us in August 07 when we first moved into our new home. He settled in straight away and after making a beeline for our brand new table and chairs he got over his chewing habit and we haven't looked back since. We love Max and are grateful to the RSPCA for giving us the opportunity to take care of him.
Thanks from Laura and kisses from Max!

Molly & Rosie
C2007133 & C2007128
Domestic Long Haired & Domestic Short Haired
Female - neutered
Adopted 1th February 2008 & 6th November 2007
Hello Everyone
When we came to look round last October, I didn’t really think we would end up adopting a kitten, as I really wanted an older cat. Unfortunately my children saw some black and white kittens and when we were told that there was one remaining, they wanted to have a look at her. This turned out to be Minka, who we renamed as Rosie. As soon as my husband picked her up she started purring and then went to sleep in his arms. We all thought what a lovely kitten she was and after a successful home visit we were able to bring her home on 6 November. As soon as she arrived, she made herself very much at home. She spent the first day sitting on my shoulders and for the first week slept in our bed as she didn’t like being on her own at night. Rosie does exactly what she wants, she jumps over the furniture and loves playing with her toys. She often has a mad half hour, when we have very little control over her, but when she eventually gets tired and goes to sleep we all sit there saying how lovely she is.
When we adopted Rosie, three long haired cats were in the holding pens and not available for adoption at that time. I thought they would be adopted very quickly, and it was only by chance when I called in for some dried kitten food that I asked to look round the cats, and found that two of the three cats were still there, one of whom was Molly. They were still there when I went back in January, then I went in again with one of my sons the following weekend and we were able to hold them both. We were told that ideally both cats would be adopted by the same person and I knew that my husband definitely didn’t want three cats so I went home and tried to forget about Molly. By chance, I was at home the following Thursday with my elder son when the phone rang. It was the RSPCA asking whether I was still interested in Molly as someone wanted to adopt Jasper, and it had been decided to split them up. I said yes, and that weekend we all went to see her and I brought her home on the 7 February. When Rosie first saw Molly, she started hissing and was very bossy with her, which seemed really funny as she is half her size. They get on very well with each other now - with Rosie being so young she wants to play all the time whereas Molly really loves eating and then likes to go to sleep. At night they often decide to chase each other up and down the stairs, making as much noise as possible. Just recently they have both been outside together, but they don’t like the wind and run back in after a few minutes. They are both lovely cats and we are so luck to have them both.

Jess
C2008027
Domestic Short Haired
Female - neutered
Adopted 20th March 2008
Hi to everyone at the RSPCA in Chesterfield
Just thought we'd send you a few pictures of Jess who we got from you on 20th March 2008. As you can see from the pictures she has settled in well and enjoyed playing with our mini Easter eggs today.
At first our cat Fry was none too happy that we had got Jess, he kept walking past her and just growling, that only lasted until Saturday when Jess started standing up for herself and growling back (well just the once!) The two of them are now getting used to each other and we are sure they will be the best of friends in no time.
From the minute we got Jess home she was so relaxed. She has settled in so quickly and already is quite cheeky. We are having great fun at dinner times trying to make sure Jess only has her kitten food and not Fry's adult food, as you can imagine she is keeping us on our toes!
She is so loving and is constantly wanting attention either sitting on our laps or sitting next to us on the sofa. She even slept on the end of our bed on Friday night, Fry was in the bed we bought her so I suppose ours was the next best thing!
Thanks to everybody who cared for her and looked after her when she was first brought to you and whilst she had the flu, so far her health is really good with no signs of sneezing.
Thanks again

Alfie
D2006240
Collie cross
Male - neutered
Adopted 13th March 2007
We went to visit Alfie on Saturday 10th March 2007 and brought him home on Tuesday 13th March 2007 after our home visit. We have now had him for exactly one year and he has developed into a wonderful family dog. We could not imagine our life without him.
When we first brought him home he was very anxious. For the fist week he cried all night and he did not like being left alone. He followed us everywhere! However, with time, he settled more and more and now he loves his new life and his new home.
He is such a loving dog, always coming up to us for fuss. He is also very clever and follows commands. He loves to play fetch with the ball and would play all day if he could. He especially loves the water and can’t wait to get in and have a paddle.
He has been on holiday to Harlech in Wales and he loved his long walks on the deserted beaches off his lead.
We have experienced problems when walking Alfie on the lead. When we first got him, it felt like you had ran a marathon by the time you got home he pulled so much. We tried every collar, harness and lead available, we spent a fortune, but nothing seemed to work.
However, over the past four months, we have been using a new technique where you stop as soon as he pulls on the lead and wait for him to come back to you, and when he does, giving him praise. This seems to be working well. He now walks most of the time without pulling. He will try his look every now and again but some strict discipline usually works.
Having Alfie has really changed our lives for the better and we would not hesitate to get another rescue dog.

Bobbin, Bailey & Boo
M2007456, 458 & 459
Domestic Rats
Female
Adopted 10th November 2007
I've sent these pictures to update you on the progress of three young doe rats adopted by Hannah Marsden from the Chesterfield RSPCA Centre
Original names were Bobbin, Boo and Bailey. They've been renamed - Bailey (Ruby eyed mink striped doe) Tia (Black hooded doe) and Honey (Pink eyed champagne striped doe). They are a joy to have around! They are now living with my six other rats in a Ferplast Duetto (indoor bird aviary) and are full of life. At first they were quite shy and just hid their head in our clothes when we had them out, but now they tear round the room like maniacs with all the other rats. They are healthy and happy and are very pretty rats. They are very friendly and confident girlies who love their food and who love life. I've attached some pictures so that you can see how much they've grown and what pretty rats they now are. I'll let Tia tell you how they're settling in:
'Hello! I'm speaking for the three of us as mum and dad say that I'm the bossiest sister. I'm Tia, the beautiful black hooded girly in the picture. Mum said she saw our picture on the internet and that's how she found us. Me and my two sisters are now living in a big cage with lots of toys and six other rats. We lived in our own cage to start with whilst we were settling in and so that we could eat lots of food without having to fight for it, but after a couple of weeks we got to know the other rats and moved into their big cage. The other rats we now share a cage with are called Mollie, Fudge, Rolo, Blossom, Daisy and Flora. We are friends with all of them, though we do stick together as sisters and it's nice to know we'll always be together.
