Volunteering
19th November 2012 - Update
Thank you for your interest in volunteering. We are currently looking for volunteers in the following areas:
Charity Shop
Van Driving/Maintenance
Reception/Administration
Raising the necessary funds to operate the animal centre is a constant challenge. We have a small number of very dedicated volunteers who man stalls at various events, do voluntary driving duties, donate time to the charity shop, help care for the animals at the centre and also do homevisiting. Without their generous support the animal centre could not operate properly and life would be very difficult. RSPCA branches are self-funding charities, therefore your support is vital for animal welfare in your area.
Did you Know? The RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire branch takes in and re-homes around 1,000 abandoned, unwanted and mistreated animals each year.
Volunteers play a vital role at the animal centre and are absolutely essential for the branch to remain open and for our work to continue. Your skills and abilities could make a real difference to the animals in our care. If you have a bit of time to spare and are interested in helping you can apply to become a volunteer by using our online volunteer application form. Alternatively you can call at the animal centre to pick up an application form or telephone Laura Breslin on 01246 273358 or e mail Laura - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Animal Centre Volunteer Helping staff take care of the animals in the centre can be very rewarding and is a vital part of our work. From dogs to cats, rabbits to farm animals, we have a very busy animal centre which requires lots of hard work and dedication. Handling, exercising, grooming and feeding the animals can be very enjoyable and it is a great way of helping your local RSPCA and even making new friends. Don't worry we give training, including a health and safety induction. Dog walking is also very popular among volunteers and is a great way for our dogs to get plenty of exercise and interaction whilst in our care. Grooming and spending time with our cats is also very important and helps our cats settle in while they are awaiting a new home. |

Fundraising Volunteer This is a vital part of volunteering for an animal centre because without fundraising the branch would not survive. As you probably know we do not receive any financial assistance from RSPCA headquarters and we are totally self -funding. One day's running costs are approximated to be an amazing £750. Helping at events, holding a stall or shaking a tin on collection days, putting up posters in your area and representing us at your local church or school fete is just a small selection of things you can do to raise money. Organising events and creating new ideas are always needed and appreciated. You could even dress up as a fluffy bunny and help out on one of our flag days (in the line of duty, of course!) We are currently seeking fundraising volunteers to help out at events such as fayres, flag days and shows. If you feel you can help with raising funds or helping at fundraising events please contact the animal centre on 01246 273358 or e mail the centre. |

Homevisitor Homevisitors play a vital role at the animal centre and without their outstanding commitment to the cause we could not find good homes for all the animals we take in. Every animal that is adopted must have a home visit so we can make sure that the animal is going into a suitable home environment. All homevisitors are volunteers and we rely on their flexibility and hard work to carry out the homevisits when an animal is reserved. Homevisitors also do post adoption visits to make sure the animal is settling into his/her new home. Happy pets in happy homes is what we aim for and home checking plays a very important part in this process. |

Charity Shop Volunteer The RSPCA Chesterfield & North Derbyshire branch has two charity shops in the Chesterfield Market Hall situated in the town centre. We are always looking for volunteers to help run the charity shops. There is always plenty to do in an RSPCA charity shop with roles to suit everybody, such as steaming clothes, helping customers, operating the till or for those with an eye for design, arranging the shop window display. Volunteering in our charity shops will enable you to meet lots of different people, be a valued member of a team and learn new skills. For further information about our charity shops please call 01246 270293
